2011 JIM THORPE OLDE TIME CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION  12/10/2011 - 12/11/2011

Christmas is a special time of year in Jim Thorpe, and so the town will celebrate with the 2011 Jim Thorpe Olde Time Christmas Celebration. The celebration will included train rides with Santa, a live nativity, Historic District Ghost Walks, Olde Time Christmas Arts Bazaar, gingerbread house contest, strolling carolers and musicians, expanded shopping hours,  and seasonal dinner specials.  If that is not enough, ticketed entertainment will take place each Saturday night of the Olde Time Christmas at the Mauch Chunk Opera House. Let the beautiful downtown transport you to a different era. Experience the true meaning of an old fashioned Christmas with an abundance of festivities for the entire family to enjoy. Shops and restaurants present music, dance, special promotions, and art displays. Other activities at Courthouse Square and throughout downtown will include the following: Santa strolls along Main Street, horse drawn carriage rides from 1-4pm, Ramsey students Ornament Reception and visit with Santa at the Driebe Freight Station, Puppet Show at The School of Visual and Performing Arts, Holiday Dance Performance at School of Visual and Performing Arts, and Tuba Christmas at Courthouse Square. Santa will be in town to greet children from noon-4pm.

 

POCONO MOUNTAINS SANTA TRAIN – EAST STROUDSBURG  12/10/2011

The Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society, in cooperation with the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad, announces train rides with Santa Claus. Each trip will be a round-trip excursion lasting approximately one hour. During each trip, Santa Claus will be walking through the entire train visiting every child on board. Santa's helpers will also be there distributing a special gift from Santa to each child. Make sure to bring your camera to get photos with Santa. Tickets are $13/adults, $7/children under 10. The train departs at 9:30am, 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm, and 2:30pm. All times are approximate and subject to change.

 

QUIET VALLEY'S ANNUAL OLD TIME CHRISTMAS  12/10/2011 - 12/11/2011

Enjoy Christmas in the 1800s as guides dressed in period clothing lead you by lantern light through the historic buildings and displays. Includes storytelling, Christmas Putz, live Nativity, caroling, Belschnikel visit, gift shop, and more. Admission is $10/adults and $5/children ages 3-12. Hours are 3:30-7pm. Groups of 12 or more make reservations for tours 2:30-3:30pm. Rain or shine.

Born on a small farm before rural electricity or television, as a child Eino Anttila had to find his own methods of entertainment. The woods with the wild animals, trees, and flowers were great for getting to know nature. Nostalgia plays a large part in his paintings and he's glad to hear people say, "Just like I remember."  Hours are 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday, and most Saturdays from 9am-1pm. The "Just Like I Remember" exhibit will be on display until February 2, 2012. Please call during business hours for holiday hours.
